New Reese’s Ice Cream Cake a Hit at Hershey’s Chocolate World on National Ice Cream Day

July 21, 2019

There’s no sweeter place to be than Hershey’s Chocolate World at Hersheypark for summertime fun, and this year visitors got a special surprise for National Ice Cream Day! On July 21, one of the hottest days of summer so far, the Rich’s team helped thousands of guests beat the heat as the team scooped out almost 10,000 servings of the all new Reese’s Ice Cream Cake.

Before entering Chocolate World and Hersheypark, visitors were met out front with a sweet, cold treat (a generous sample of Reese’s Ice Cream Cake) and $3 off coupon to use at their local grocery stores…delivered by a team of enthusiastic brand ambassadors decked out in eye-catching Reese’s orange. Reese, the brand’s popular mascot, made special appearances throughout the day, engaging with fans and snapping photos and selfies. Hershey’s Chocolate World also featured the ice cream event via Facebook and Instagram Live videos as well as plenty of social media support. The Reese’s brand reps and Rich’s DSD team worked tirelessly from the crack of dawn to late afternoon, prepping and serving samples non-stop to thousands of chocolate/peanut butter/ice cream lovers. Hershey’s estimates over 40,000 guests visited the park that day.

With over 500 ice cream cakes brought in on a DSD freezer truck just for this activation, the Rich’s DSD team was a huge part of the success – not only delivering the cakes and keeping them cold, but also cutting and prepping the thousands of samples given out throughout the day. With temperatures hovering near 100 degrees on National Ice Cream Day, it goes without saying that guests were happy and grateful for the ice cold treats.

Angelica Losey-Shetenhelm, a frequent patron of Hersheypark, raved about the new cake flavor. “It’s so delicious. We’re big Reese’s fans and we were excited to see how it tasted!”

Linda Doherty, visiting from New Hampshire, said the cake stands out compared to others. “It’s very rich and has everything you want in an ice cream cake!”

The Chocolate World Reese’s sampling event also drew lots of media attention, from local news outlets like The Patriot-News/Penn Live (the largest daily newspaper serving the greater Harrisburg, PA area) and WPMT-TV FOX 43 News.

Kim O’Brien, Rich’s Shopper Marketing Manager who oversaw the promotion, said, “This promotion exceeded all of our expectations and we were so thrilled to debut our Reese’s Ice Cream Cake at Hershey’s Chocolate World – what better possible place? The event’s success was the result of good planning, great teamwork and people’s universal love of chocolate, peanut butter and ice cream!”
