Celebrating Culture One Sip at a Time

Bubble Tea Samples Delight at Buffalo’s Asian Festival

This past August, Richs’ sponsored the 6th annual Asian Food and Culture Festival at Canalside in Buffalo. Ten associates representing Rich’s Associate Resource Groups (ARG) served up bubble tea samples to attendees who came downtown to experience live performances and explore cultural exhibits that showcase traditional arts, crafts, customs, and, of course, food. Rich’s volunteers helped deliver an interactive day filled with community, connection, and cultural exchange

“Participating in an event like this gives us an opportunity to showcase our culture as a global company,” said Linda Huang, Rich’s Senior Manager, Speed to Market. “We have customers, vendors and associates all around the world, so this was a great way to celebrate our diversity and let the community know how important it is to us.”

This was Linda’s fourth time participating in the event and the entire team knew they’d need a special product giveaway to top last year’s cookie samples. Working with Rich’s TCCS (Toppings, Creams and Culinary Solutions) Category Business Unit, Linda coordinated the necessary ingredients, supplies and R&D support required to prepare two different bubble tea bases for 500 three-ounce servings.

Members of Rich’s Parent-2-Parent (P2P) and Kaleidoscope ARGs participated in the event parade and distributed delicious bubble tea samples—a drink first popularized in Taiwan in the 80s which has become a global phenomenon. The popping boba rest at the bottom of a tea-based brew made with Rich’s All In-One-Creamer, originated from Rich’s product offering in Asia and commercialized in the US. The bubble teas were also topped with Rich’s Soft Whip and On Top Whipped Topping.

“There are a lot of bubble tea lovers out there now, so everyone seemed really excited to try our samples,” said Linda. “Those that had never tasted it before were hesitant at first, but they heard the Rich’s name and the positive feedback from other customers and decided to take a sip. They loved it too.

The drinks were so well received that the team ran out of samples before the event ended. But that didn’t stop volunteers from continuing to make connections with the community.

“For Kaleidoscope ARG, this was a great representation of the cultural diversity that we have within Rich’s,” shared Linda who is responsible for programming and events for Rich’s P2P ARG. “As a member of the Parent-2-Parent group, we appreciate that this is a family friendly event that’s free to the community. It was a great opportunity for families to come out and get a taste of the Asian culture.”

Linda is grateful for Rich’s ongoing sponsorship of the event—a commitment that ensures it will continue to be successful and a highlight of Buffalo’s annual arts, culture and community calendar.

“With all that’s happening around the world, it’s great just to be able to pause and enjoy events like this that bring the community together,” reflected Linda.
